Les Marais

Earlier in the month I visited Les Marais, one of New York's fairly decent kosher eateries.  My experience was not a very pleasant one.

The Atmosphere:
Les Marais is very noisy and small. All the tables are squished together ,making it impossible to hear or speak. The only cool thing is that the knives are converted switchblades. The restaurant is supposed to look like a casual French Steakhouse.

The Food:
For my appetizer I indulged in Wagyu Beef Sliders, with a side of frizzled leeks. On the whole they were very good, I just wish there were more leeks.  For my main course I consumed a 8 oz. Hanger Steak with fries and red wine shallot sauce. I was very disappointed because I asked for my steak cooked medium well,  it wasn't "well" . I am not usually the complaining type of person, but that is just not acceptable. For dessert I had a molten chocolate cake.  Like any molten chocolate cake it was good.

The Service:
Was plain bad. It took 30 minutes and 3 reminders for them to remember to bring my Pepsi. They need new staff.

Prime Grill

Recently I ate dinner at The Prime Grill,one of New York's most prestigious kosher meat restaurants. 

The atmosphere is a very pleasant one. Low level lighting and candles adorn the large space of the restaurant. There is an outdoor seating area that is absolutely lovely to dine in. The on flaw in the seating is that there is a construction site across the street, making it very noisy.

The food on the whole is very tasty. I started with Kobe Beef slider, made from the expensive Japanese breed of cow. They were on the whole good, the only problem I had was the fact that my waiter did not ask how I would like them cooked. They came out okay in the end anyways. For my main course, I indulged in a 10 ounce pepper crusted fillet, cooked medium well and served with what they call tobacco onions. It came with two sauces,bernaise and red wine. The steak was a bit spicy by itself,but the sauces mellowed out the spiciness.  For dessert I had tiramisu  , an Italian delicacy. It was light and fluffy and tasted of cream and coffee.  It was amazing.

The service was on the whole very good. Once you are seated a waiter comes and gives you bread and asks you what you would like to drink.  They give you plenty of time to choose what you want and give enough time to eat.
